About The Maeve Leonard Award
The Maeve Leonard Award is awarded annually to an individual (or group) who has made a very significant contribution to delirium awareness, knowledge or care. The Award is given in memory of Dr Maeve Leonard, a Liaison Psychiatrist, a gifted teacher and a committed researcher in the assessment and management of symptoms of delirium in hospitalised patients. Maeve was described as a ‘tsunami of positivity’ and the energy and commitment she brought to delirium research and care is remembered in this reward.
Although previous winners include Valerie Page (2023), Stefan Kriesel (2022), Colm Cunningham (2021), John Young (2019), Alasdair MacLullich (2018), Barbara Kamholz (2017) and Yngve Gustafson (2016), the winner may be a person or group at any career stage in clinical, academic or research settings and in any discipline related to delirium care or research. The key requirement is that the individual or group has made some unique contribution.
All EDA members are encouraged to propose individuals or groups who they believe should be considered for the award in 2024. To do so they should write 3 or 4 sentences in support of the proposed recipient to explain why they, in particular, are deserving of this award. A 3 member selection committee, appointed by the EDA executive, will then select the winner of the award for 2024.
